Steveston Community Park Playground
Steveston Playground Grand Re-Opening
In the heart of Steveston, located just northeast of the intersection of No. 1 Road and Moncton Street, is the Steveston Community Park and its brand-new children’s playground. The community park has been a cornerstone for the community’s families and visitors and has represented Steveston’s maritime heritage since its installation.
The Steveston Community Society purchased the park’s land in 1942 and donated it to the city, after which the first playground was built. Over its 83 years serving the community, the playground has undergone six renovations and adopted exciting features such as the Steveston Outdoor Pool and Steveston Water Park. The most recent playground remodel–with a construction period that began in 2024 and finished in June of 2025—has not only continued to represent Steveston’s history as a fishing village, but the project also improved the safety and inclusivity of the park.
The new playground includes: custom salmon and fishing boat inspired climbers with interactive panels, a lighthouse tower with two big slides, a large sand play area with diggers, a new train, a double zip line, multiple spring toys, spinners, and swings. In addition, the playground has wheelchair-accessible entry into play areas and a wheelchair-accessible spinner as well as play features suited for toddler-aged children.
The Steveston Community Society has been proud to support the City of Richmond throughout this renewal project—from the earliest concept discussions to its completion. A special thanks is due to the Society Board of Directors, both past and present, for their guidance and commitment throughout this process. In addition, the Society is especially grateful for the contributions of community members like those at Canfisco, who demonstrated ongoing dedication to this project.
